The Mandala Project

My gifted readers learned about Mandalas this week. They studied how Mandalas tell a story, starting in the center and moving out, using only symbols and color to evoke movement and mood. Our theme in reading this year is Cyclic Patterns of Change. I asked each student to make compare themselves to color, animals, songs, numbers and other symbols that they believe represent who they really are. I took their Mandalas and created this, a sort of Mandala quilt that showcases how we, as a class, are all connected and vital to the success of our shared learning. As we move into reading Madeleine L'Engle's brilliant book "A Wrinkle in Time," students will examine what makes them tick. How they fit into our global community, and what really is at their core; their center, and what they stand for.
